How We Use AI
How AI Helps Us Build Our Apps
We use AI as part of our development process to help write code, spot potential bugs, and explore different approaches. It helps us move from an idea to a working solution, while we remain responsible for deciding what to build and how it should work.
AI does not:
- Decide which features belong in our apps
- Release code without our review and testing
- Have access to production systems or customer data during development
- Take the place of our judgment or responsibility
We review, test, and approve code before it goes live. AI contributes to the process; we’re responsible for the result.
How AI Features Use Your Data
AI use varies by app, but we do not send your personal data to AI services.
Bound and Borrowed is currently our only app with an AI-powered feature: Reading Companion. When you use it, your device provides the book’s title and author to an AI service to gather information about the book and generate a detailed summary.
What You Can Expect from AI Features
For any AI-powered features we offer, we make these commitments:
- You’ll know when AI is involved. Features that use AI will be clearly labeled.
- You’ll have a choice. You can turn off AI-powered features.
- The policy will stay ahead of new features. We’ll update this policy before launching new uses of AI.
- You’ll know what information is used. We’ll explain what data each AI feature uses and how it’s handled.
Our Responsibility to You
We build and operate our apps, and we’re accountable for the decisions behind them. Using AI doesn’t change our responsibility to make thoughtful choices, care for your data, and stand behind the software we release.
Keeping This Policy Current
If we make a significant change to how our apps use AI, we’ll update this policy and let users know before the change takes effect. The latest version will always be available here.
